Getting Entangled in the World – It’s not what you think!
As Christians, we have no choice but to get entangled into the systems of our world. Of course we can TRY to go “rogue” and live off on our own but we will inevitably find ourselves still answering to those governments of authority, the politics of our workplace, and the means by which we travel, buy and sell through the systems in which we live. It’s a novel idea to think that one will be left unscathed. Jesus (guiltless), was also entangled in the world, one filled with the corruption of religion and politics. Ultimately he would lay down his life as he had willingly become entangled by its rules and consequences.
So what do you think was the point by going about saving the world this way? While innocent, Jesus allowed himself to be caught in the system but why did he choose to submit to the process? Why didn’t he just crack the sky open and make an announcement “obey me I am God”? Here’s a thought, it’s because this is where his children live, die and love! This is where we are, he came to walk with us and save us. He wanted to stand face to face, eye to eye, heart to heart to prove his love for us. Philippians 2:5-8 “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
So the next time that self-important thought comes to mind that you are better than the entangled system you find yourself in (and maybe you really are, Jesus was) instead of picking up attitude and haughty eyes…humble yourself, take a deep breath and ask Jesus what he wants from you during the process. God is less focused on your occupation as he weights your heart’s disposition. He is less impressed by your accomplishments and is much more concerned with your relationships. And just maybe where you are caught is more about who you are caught with. Trust Him. Submit to the Process!
