Believing IS Seeing – a tribute to Geneva
Category : Testimony
Meet my Mother, Geneva. Today my momma would have turned 66! but instead, she’s at her perfect age, weight & health waiting in heaven with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She never shy’d away from preaching his name even through all of her struggles in life. To this day, many will testify that she was a living witness to all of the lost and saved souls that we brought home. She never gave up on praying over me even though I was a rebellious & troubled child (for so many reasons!). She never wavered from believing God was who he said he was and he had a plan to get us to himself on the other side! However, momma didn’t receive the answers to many of her prayers, at least not while she was alive.
Instead, she passed from this earth before she would attend weddings, comfort some through the tears of divorces or meet any of her now 11 grandchildren. She certainly passed before she saw this wild child fully devoted to Christ! The book of Hebrews talks of God’s children in exactly the same way, its titled Faith in Action; “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.”
Hebrews 11:13
Momma stood firm as she would pray over me (and sometimes against me!), “Satan, you will not have my child!” She would pace while she yelled at the devil and talked to God and I would listened to her prayers as they took on the hum of a momma bear in war tone. All these years later, I look back in gratefulness. I can see how she never gave up on me, she walked by Faith, the kind of faith recorded of God’s children. Faith in Action = Here I am now momma, fully surrendered. The thought still brings me to tears. She didn’t receive the answers to her prayers, at least not while she was alive but she certainly pleased God!
If you are struggling wanting to know does God even hear your prayers? Well, let me encourage you, yes, yes he does! FAITH IN ACTION is the only way God’s people truly please God. Believing IS Seeing, not the other way around. Just look at me, an answer to my momma’s prayers. God is faithful!
Read Hebrews 11 for this encouraging chapter on Faith in Action! Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, David and Samuel and the prophets were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. If you live by faith, go ahead and add your name to this list too! I know I’m on it, how about you?
