The Pride of Life
The Pride of Life
Not many Christians will tell you the truth but I’m going to take a risk and admit to you that the Christian Faith is about death, your death. Some faiths claim to want to destroy another in death, but it’s Jesus teaching that we must die to self, to the things of this world in order to serve him. 1 John 2:15-17, Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
I don’t know about you but I struggle with the pride of life. I want to be respected, considered worthy and smart. Nothing feels as great as when your life appears to be in such a picture perfect package to onlookers. God must love me a lot because he has made sure my life has never given me over to pride, not because I wouldn’t go there but because it will never look like a picture perfect package from all of my striving. I’m a single mom, in my 40’s and have two beautiful children having two different fathers. There’s nothing perfect about that. I have struggled to try and tape all the pieces together at times to make my life presentable and acceptable to both myself and onlookers but mostly it’s just really hard. It’s in the weak moments and the lowly unperfected placed in my heart that God really shows up for me, for my kids and that’s what shines in my life.
What do you struggle with? Is it the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or the pride of life? Please feel free to comment below. Let’s pray for each other and lift each other up so that from our broken places God is able to make sure nothing in this world can take our hearts away from Christ.
